This site may be a blog, but it’s still run by journalists dammit! While blogging is still a new and changing medium, here at The Eagle we believe there are some basic guidelines to help us navigate these dangerous virtual seas.
- This blog exists to complement and supplement The Eagle, the printed semiweekly independent newspaper of American University. Like the paper, The Eagle Blog subscribes to certain ideas about journalistic integrity:
- When reporting, objectivity should be the goal, without stated opinion. However, given the instantaneous and informal nature of blogging, this reporter does reserve the right to editorialize when comments are appropriate and labeled as such. Any opinions voiced on this web site are those of the blogger, not The Eagle’s Editorial Board. The blogger does not meet with the Board to editorialize on stories.
- All pictures will be credited. If they aren’t credited, they’re pictures I’ve taken or I forgot to credit the Flickr user, and will feel really bad about it for a long time. In general, The Eagle Blog uses pictures taken by members of The Eagle’s staff or those licensed with a Creative Commons license.
The Eagle strives to report with thoroughness, accuracy and impartiality the news that affects the American University community and other areas of interest by maintaining a consistent, relevant, quality flow of news.
